Ballina Dive Weekend
Ballina Dive Weekend 4th - 5th July 2026
With a dramatic and varied coastline along with excellent onshore facilities, the opportunities for diving around the north coast of Mayo with Ballina as a base, are very appealing. Although we have explored many of the other well known sites along the Atlantic coastline, this will be our first time to run a dive weekend to this exciting location. Travelling from Dublin is a much shorter journey than many of our other Atlantic bases. The distance is just 235 km with a drive time of approximately 3 hours.

The Ocean Enterprise RIB will be based off Kilcummin Pier where loading divers and gear will be easy in all tides. We will also be able to fill cylinders there from our own portable compressor.

Following careful preparation of the whole structure to remove any hazzardous materials that could pose a threat to divers or the environment, the ship was towed out to its final resting place and scuttled on the 18th September 2024.

The vibrant and historical town of Ballina straddles the River Moy Estuary and is set in a stunning location between the Ox and Nephin Mountain Ranges. All the facilities we will need are close at hand with plenty of affordable accommodation along with great pubs and restaurants.

The wreck settled on the bottom in 29 meters of water and although it was subsequently broken into three sections during Storm Éowyn, the site is a wonderful dive with marine life now strongly established within it's sheltering hulls.

In 2024, the MV Shingle was deliberately sunk in Killala Bay to become Ireland's first artificial reef. The project was planned and organised with local support following the conficsation of the ship by Irish Customs for smuggling.

There are dozens of fabulous dive sites within easy reach by RIB from Kilcummin Pier. In researching this area, we have received excellent support and guidance from local divers along with the Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua Club so we are really excited get diving there and discover them for ourselves.
There is a excellent choice of accommodation in Ballina and the surrounding area from Airbnb, Guest houses and Hotels. There is also a newly opened Hostel with reasonable prices and great reviews. Heyday Hostel
